These beautiful Indian garnets are a mixture of almandine and pyrope garnet and they exhibit the unusual light refraction form of asterism. Asterism is a star effect and is caused by inclusions of rutile that must form in a specific way to display the unique pattern. Asterism can be found in few gems and is usually associated with Sapphires and Ruby but can be found in certain types of quartz and beryls. 
The super rare 6 sided stars can be found in the Idaho star garnets with this gemstone named as the state gemstone of Idaho. 
Garnet is associated with the root chakra and has grounding and stabilising qualities for both the physical and emotional self.
